What's on the ITFAS exam
The Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems (ITFAS) (ITFAS) exam is organized into 7 knowledge domains. These free practice questions are drawn from across them so you can see where you're strong and where to study:
- Level I, 1.1 Plan and Coordinate Work (7-17%); 1.1.1 Locate/count/classify inspection/testing devices; 1.1.2 Coordinate with owner/building manager; 1.1.3 Select applicable inspection/testing requirements; 1.1.4 Notify relevant parties before testing and after completion; 1.1.5 Report findings appropriately; 1.1.6 Restore system operation; 1.1.7 Archive reports/documentation.
- Level I, 1.2 Inspect Equipment (25-35%); 1.2.1 Inspect control units; 1.2.2 Inspect power supplies, wiring and connections; 1.2.3 Inspect initiating devices; 1.2.4 Inspect notification appliances; 1.2.5 Inspect off-premises signaling equipment; 1.2.6 Inspect system wiring/connections.
- Level I, 1.3 Test Functionality (46-56%); 1.3.1 Function-test control units; 1.3.2 Function-test power supplies; 1.3.3 Test initiating devices/circuits; 1.3.4 Test notification appliances/circuits; 1.3.5 Test off-premises signaling equipment/circuits; 1.3.6 Test basic interfaces.
- Level I, 1.4 Maintain Devices (3-13%); 1.4.1 Replace batteries when needed; 1.4.2 Identify needed replacement devices; 1.4.3 Clean devices when needed.
- Level II, 2.1 Plan and Coordinate Work (15-25%); 2.1.1 Define assignment scope including interfaces; 2.1.2 Survey devices/interfaces/problems/documentation; 2.1.3 Identify other protection/building systems and device locations; 2.1.4 Coordinate with owner/trades/specialties throughout inspection; 2.1.5 Interpret applicable codes/standards.
- Level II, 2.2 Inspect Interfaces and Specialty Equipment (20-30%); 2.2.1 Inspect elevator-recall/shutdown interfaces; 2.2.2 Inspect smoke-control interfaces; 2.2.3 Inspect suppression/pre-action interfaces; 2.2.4 Inspect emergency communications: ERCES, ARA, firefighter phones, mass notification; 2.2.5 Inspect specialized detectors; 2.2.6 Inspect networked controls.
